Hello everyone, how are you all doing? I hope you’ve all had a lovely week and are keeping well! ๐ As always, welcome back to my little corner of the internet, and if you’re joining me for the very first time, a huge welcome to you too! Thank you so much for taking a little bit of time out of your day to stop by and read today’s postโit honestly means more than you know. Grab yourself your favourite drink โ, get comfy, and let’s have a little catch-up before we dive into this week’s blog! I’ll try not to bore you all too much with another rib update because, unfortunately, there really isn’t much to report. They’re still exactly the same as they’ve been for the past month. ๐ I gave the cream a proper chance, hoping it might finally make a difference, but if anything, it actually seemed to make the pain even worse rather than better. Since then, I’ve been trying to get an appointment with my GP, but as I’m sure many of you can relate to, it’s been almost impossible to get seen recently. In the meantime, I popped into my local pharmacy to ask for some advice and explained everything that had happened, including how I physically felt both sides of my ribs pop. Sadly, instead of feeling reassured, I left feeling quite upset after being told it was “all in my head.” ๐ Anyone who lives with chronic pain knows the difference between imagined pain and something that genuinely doesn’t feel right, and considering I deal with pain every single day because of my health conditions, I know my own body. It definitely knocked my confidence a little, and I’ve felt quite deflated ever since. I’m just hoping that sooner rather than later I’ll finally manage to see a doctor and hopefully get some proper answers. ๐ค๐ป
What an incredible few weeks it’s been for football fans! โฝ Although England ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ didn’t quite make it all the way, I honestly couldn’t be prouder of how they played throughout the tournament. They showed so much determination, resilience and team spirit, and they represented the country brilliantly from start to finish. Sometimes football can be incredibly cruel, and results don’t always reflect the effort and commitment the players put in. Many supporters also felt frustrated by some of Argentina’s conduct during the tournament, and there has been ongoing discussion surrounding investigations involving the team, which certainly added to the debate. Regardless of differing opinions, one thing that united a lot of fans was the final itself. A huge congratulations has to go to Spain ๐ช๐ธ for lifting the trophy! ๐ They played some fantastic football throughout the competition, and it was lovely to see them crowned deserved champions. Congratulations to every player, member of staff and supporterโyou’ve certainly got plenty to celebrate! ๐
One thing that definitely made me smile this week was seeing the lovely photos my sister shared in our family WhatsApp group. ๐ฅน She proudly showed us just how amazingly both of my nephews have done at school this year, and honestly, it made me so proud to see everything they’ve achieved. It’s hard to believe another school year has already flown by, and now, like children all across the country, they’re officially on their summer holidays! โ๏ธ๐ฆ They both deserve a well-earned break after all their hard work, and I can’t wait to hear all about what they get up to over the next few weeks. Seeing those photos also reminded me just how long it’s been since we’ve all spent some proper quality time together as a family, so we’re definitely going to have to get a date in the diary because it feels like forever since we last saw each other. Talking about my sister, she celebrated her birthday this past Monday! ๐ฅณ๐ Happy Birthday again, Kim! โค๏ธ I hope you had a lovely day and managed to celebrate, even if we didn’t get the chance to see you in person this time around. Life has been unbelievably busy for all of us over the past few weeks, and before you know it, days somehow turn into weeks. Hopefully it won’t be much longer before we can all get together properly, have a catch-up, enjoy plenty of laughs, and celebrate your birthday together as a family because that’s what really matters. Family time is always so special, and I can’t wait until we can all be together again. ๐ฅฐ While I’m talking about family, another thing that’s been on my mind recently is visiting my Auntie. We were saying the other day that we haven’t actually seen her since Christmas, and honestly, I hate that. ๐ Time just seems to disappear so quickly, and before you realise it, months have passed. I miss her so much, and I never like leaving it too long between visits because spending time with family is something I really treasure. So that’s definitely something we’ll be sorting out very soon! Hopefully we’ll find a date that works for everyone, spend the day together, have a good catch-up, enjoy plenty of cups of tea and make some lovely new memories. Sometimes it’s the simple moments with the people you love most that mean absolutely everything. โค๏ธ
With that little life update finished, let’s turn our attention towards something a little more uplifting! ๐ As many of you will know, I absolutely love discovering beautiful places around the UK, and with summer in full swing, I thought there couldn’t be a better time to shine a spotlight on some of our country’s most wonderful coastal destinations. From colourful fishing villages and sandy beaches to dramatic cliffs, bustling harbours and hidden seaside gems, today’s post is packed with inspiration for your next day trip or holiday. So, without further ado, let’s explore some of my favourite UK seaside towns that I think everyone should visit at least once! ๐๏ธโจ
There really is something special about the British coastline, isn’t there? ๐ Whether it’s listening to the waves crashing against the shore, wandering through quaint little streets filled with independent shops, enjoying a traditional portion of fish and chips by the harbour, or simply watching a colourful sunset over the sea, every seaside town has its own unique charm. From dramatic cliffs and golden sandy beaches to picturesque fishing harbours and bustling promenades, the UK is home to some truly incredible coastal destinations just waiting to be explored.
*Disclaimer: Now you might notice my cover photo says ‘England,’ but these spots were too beautiful to leave out! So I’ve expanded this list a little to include the very best seaside gems across Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, too.*
)
From Cornwall’s turquoise waters to Scotland’s rugged coastline, and from colourful Welsh harbours to charming fishing villages tucked away along England’s coast, there’s certainly no shortage of beautiful seaside towns to discover. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend escape, a family day out, somewhere to practise your photography, or simply somewhere new to add to your travel bucket list, this collection has something for everyone. So, grab yourself a cuppa โ, get comfortable, and let’s take a journey around fifteen of the UK’s most beautiful seaside towns!
1. Whitby, North Yorkshire

Few seaside towns capture the imagination quite like Whitby. Best known for its connection to Dracula and its dramatic clifftop abbey, Whitby perfectly blends fascinating history with stunning coastal scenery. Climb the famous 199 Steps to enjoy panoramic views over the harbour before exploring the atmospheric ruins of Whitby Abbey. Down by the waterfront, you’ll find award-winning fish and chip restaurants, independent shops, traditional arcades, and plenty of boat trips during the warmer months. If you enjoy walking, follow part of the Cleveland Way for spectacular cliff-top views, while photographers should head to the West Pier at sunset when the golden light beautifully frames the lighthouse. For something a little quieter, visit Saltwick Bay just outside town, a peaceful beach popular for fossil hunting and breathtaking sunrises.
2. St Ives, Cornwall

St Ives often feels more like a Mediterranean fishing village than somewhere in the UK, thanks to its crystal-clear waters and golden sandy beaches. Its narrow cobbled streets are filled with independent galleries, cafรฉs, and boutique shops, making it the perfect place to spend an afternoon wandering. Art lovers can visit the Tate St Ives or the Barbara Hepworth Museum, while beach lovers can relax on Porthminster or Porthmeor Beach. If you’re looking for somewhere less crowded, take the short walk to Clodgy Point for spectacular coastal views and peaceful picnic spots. As the evening arrives, the harbour becomes one of the most photogenic places in Cornwall as fishing boats gently bob on the tide beneath glowing pastel skies.
3. Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire

Stepping into Robin Hood’s Bay feels like travelling back in time. Its steep winding streets, charming cottages, and fascinating maritime history make it one of Yorkshire’s most picturesque villages. Legend tells stories of smugglers using hidden tunnels beneath many of the houses, adding even more mystery to this beautiful location. The beach is famous for fossil hunting and rock pooling, while the Cleveland Way offers some of the finest coastal walks in England. For a quieter experience, arrive early in the morning before day-trippers appear and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as fishing boats head out to sea and the village slowly wakes up.
4. Tenby, Pembrokeshire

Tenby is one of Wales’ most colourful seaside towns, instantly recognisable by the bright pastel houses overlooking its picturesque harbour. Surrounded by medieval town walls and several beautiful beaches, it’s the perfect destination for both relaxation and adventure. Take a boat trip to Caldey Island, home to a community of monks and peaceful walking trails, or explore the Pembrokeshire Coast Path for incredible sea views. Hidden away beneath the cliffs is St Catherine’s Island, a small tidal island with a Victorian fort that’s only accessible when the tide allows, making it feel like a true hidden treasure.
5. Bamburgh, Northumberland

Dominated by its magnificent castle standing proudly above miles of golden sand, Bamburgh is one of the UK’s most dramatic coastal destinations. The beach is often surprisingly quiet considering its beauty, making it ideal for long walks and photography. Inside Bamburgh Castle, you’ll discover centuries of history along with spectacular views across the North Sea towards the Farne Islands. Wildlife enthusiasts may even spot seals or dolphins offshore, while nearby Budle Bay offers peaceful birdwatching opportunities away from the crowds.
6. Llandudno, Wales

Often called the ‘Queen of Welsh Resorts’, Llandudno combines Victorian elegance with spectacular scenery. Stroll along one of Britain’s longest piers, ride the historic Great Orme Tramway, or take the cable car for breathtaking views across Snowdonia and the Irish Sea. The Great Orme itself offers wonderful walking routes where wild Kashmiri goats often wander freely across the hillside. Hidden away on the opposite side of town is the peaceful West Shore Beach, a much quieter alternative to the bustling North Shore.
7. Southwold, Suffolk

Southwold is full of traditional seaside charm, famous for its colourful beach huts, elegant pier, and iconic lighthouse sitting right in the middle of town. The pier itself features quirky homemade amusement machines unlike anywhere else in Britain, while the beach offers plenty of space to relax. Wander through the independent shops before taking a stroll towards Southwold Harbour, where fishing boats and cosy cafรฉs create a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. Just outside town, Walberswick can be reached by a small foot ferry during summer and offers beautiful dunes and tranquil walking trails.
8. Padstow, Cornwall

Padstow has become one of Cornwall’s best-loved harbour towns thanks to its fantastic food scene and picturesque waterfront. Seafood restaurants line the harbour while boat trips offer opportunities to spot dolphins, seals, and even basking sharks on rare occasions. Hire a bike and cycle part of the Camel Trail through peaceful countryside, or venture to nearby Stepper Point where you’ll discover stunning cliff-top views without the crowds. As evening falls, the harbour becomes the perfect place to enjoy an ice cream while watching fishing boats return with their daily catch.
9. Cromer, Norfolk

Cromer is a classic British seaside town packed with charm. Its Victorian pier is one of the few remaining in the country to host an end-of-pier theatre, while the town is famous for its delicious Cromer crab. Wander through the independent shops before heading to the beach, where colourful fishing boats often rest on the sand. Just outside town lies Overstrand Beach, a quieter stretch of coastline that’s perfect for peaceful walks and photography away from the busier promenade.
10. Portmeirion, Gwynedd

Unlike anywhere else in Britain, Portmeirion feels as though it has been transported directly from the Italian Riviera. Brightly coloured buildings, subtropical gardens, and elegant architecture make it one of the UK’s most unique places to visit. Wander through hidden pathways, admire stunning estuary views, and explore beautiful woodland trails surrounding the village. Nearby, the vast Black Rock Sands offer another wonderful place to explore after visiting this unforgettable coastal destination.
11. Brixham, Devon

As one of England’s busiest fishing ports, Brixham offers an authentic maritime atmosphere with colourful boats filling the harbour every day. The replica of Sir Francis Drake’s ship, the Golden Hind, is a fascinating attraction for families, while the South West Coast Path provides incredible walks along the rugged coastline. Venture to Berry Head National Nature Reserve, where dramatic cliffs, historic forts, and incredible sea views combine to create one of Devon’s finest hidden gems.
12. Lyme Regis, Dorset

Known as the ‘Pearl of Dorset’, Lyme Regis sits proudly along the spectacular Jurassic Coast. Fossil hunters from around the world visit the beaches hoping to uncover ancient treasures, while the famous Cobb Harbour has featured in several films and novels. Take a leisurely stroll along the seafront before visiting the Lyme Regis Museum to learn about pioneering fossil hunter Mary Anning. For quieter scenery, head towards Charmouth, where the beaches offer excellent walking opportunities and even more chances to discover prehistoric fossils.
13. North Berwick, Scotland

North Berwick perfectly combines sandy beaches with spectacular Scottish scenery. Boat trips take visitors to the famous Bass Rock, home to one of the world’s largest northern gannet colonies, while the Scottish Seabird Centre provides an excellent insight into the area’s incredible wildlife. Walk to Tantallon Castle for dramatic coastal views or simply relax along the beach watching the waves roll in. If you’re lucky, you might even spot puffins during the breeding season.
14. Oban, Scotland
Often called the ‘Gateway to the Isles’, Oban is the perfect starting point for exploring Scotland’s west coast. Its bustling harbour offers ferry trips to nearby islands while McCaig’s Tower provides one of the best viewpoints overlooking the bay. Seafood lovers will be spoilt for choice with fresh catches served daily, and nearby Ganavan Sands offers a quieter beach that’s ideal for an evening stroll. Watching the sunset from the harbour is an experience that’s difficult to forget.
15. Ballycastle, County Antrim

Situated along Northern Ireland’s breathtaking Causeway Coastal Route, Ballycastle is surrounded by incredible natural beauty. Relax on the beach, wander around the marina, or take a ferry across to Rathlin Island, where puffins, seals, and dramatic cliffs await. Just a short drive away, you’ll find the famous Giant’s Causeway and the thrilling Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, making Ballycastle an excellent base for exploring this remarkable coastline. If you have time, visit Fair Head Cliffs, where spectacular views stretch for miles across the sea to Scotland on a clear day.

Further to my comment on your ME//CFS post, may I suggest you only have about 3 short or medium length sentences in a paragraph. Then a space.
As much as I love photography, I’m unable to read your written words as my eyes glaze over barely part way through your first paragraph. Like many FM/CFS sufferers, especially with poor reading vision, I don’t have the cognitive function to read books any more or even long articles.
Your photos are lovely. They remind me of the time I spent in the U.K. in 1976, 1978/79.
