Hello guys! ππΌπ How are you all doing? I hope you’re all keeping well and having a good week wherever you are! β€οΈ It feels like it has been quite an emotionally challenging couple of weeks for me, with quite a lot happening and a few moments that have really tested me. π Sometimes life seems to throw several things at you at once, and before you’ve even had a chance to catch your breath from one thing, something else comes along. I’ve definitely had a few moments recently where I’ve had to remind myself to take things one day at a time and not put too much pressure on myself to have everything figured out. I think that’s something we can all probably relate to from time to time β those periods where you just feel like you need to pause, breathe, and give yourself a little bit of kindness. β€οΈ
One particularly difficult moment happened when I was out shopping with my family. What started as a normal trip quickly became overwhelming when people kept barging past us and getting extremely close to me, one after another. π£ With each person coming closer, my anxiety just kept building until it eventually skyrocketed and I ended up having a full-blown panic attack. 𫨠For anyone who has experienced one, you’ll know just how frightening and overwhelming it can be when your body and mind suddenly feel completely out of your control. And unfortunately, while it was very clear that I was struggling, some people actually ended up laughing at me. π That honestly made an already horrible situation feel even worse. I don’t like people touching me or getting too close to me as it is because of things I’ve experienced in the past, so having people repeatedly invading my personal space while I was already becoming increasingly anxious was incredibly difficult. What upset me most wasn’t just having the panic attack itself, but feeling like something that was clearly distressing to me had become something for other people to laugh at. A little bit of understanding and kindness would have made such a difference. β€οΈ Sometimes you really don’t know what someone else is going through, which is why I will always believe that it’s better to be kind than to judge.
On a much happier note, there’s been plenty of family WhatsApp activity lately because my mum’s birthday is getting closer! ππ₯³ My sister, my aunt and I have been messaging backwards and forwards, discussing presents and organising things. I absolutely love planning things for the people I care about, especially when it’s something that’s meant to make them smile. There have been lots of little conversations, ideas and bits of organising going on behind the scenes, and I’m really hoping the weather is nice on the day for what I have planned. β€οΈ Birthdays are always special, but I think there’s something particularly lovely about being able to take someone out for the day and create a memory that you’ll all look back on afterwards. So, fingers crossed, I’ll have a very happy birthday story to tell you all about very soon! ππ
Speaking of my sister, she and her family also went away for a few days last week, but unfortunately their trip ended with a situation that I think would have frightened absolutely anyone. π³ The Airbnb they were staying in had somehow been double-booked, and the night before they were due to leave, another person actually entered the property thinking they had booked it! π¨ I can only imagine the shock of hearing someone come into the place you believe you’re safely staying in, especially when you aren’t expecting anyone to be there. My sister and my older nephew were understandably really freaked out by what happened and, even though the owner managed to sort the situation out quickly, it understandably left them feeling very uneasy. They decided they didn’t feel comfortable staying there any longer and left first thing in the morning. π‘π¨ I’m just incredibly relieved that everyone was okay and that the situation was resolved as quickly as it was. It really does make you realise how important it is to feel safe wherever you’re staying, especially when you’re away from home with your family. What should have simply been the end of a nice little getaway turned into a rather scary experience that I’m sure none of them will forget in a hurry! π¬
And then there’s my foot update… π¦Άπ Unfortunately, this is one area where I still don’t really have the answers I’d hoped for. While thankfully the bruising has now faded quite a bit, the swelling is still there, and I can still feel that something isn’t right inside my actual foot. It’s difficult to explain, but when you know your own body, you know when something doesn’t feel right. I’ve tried to get help and explain my concerns, but I feel like I’m not being listened to, and that’s incredibly frustrating and upsetting. π At this point, I’ve reached the stage where I’m giving up on going backwards and forwards to the doctors or hospital for help because I feel like I’m repeatedly explaining my worries without feeling heard. What makes things even more difficult is that the pain has now been travelling up my whole side, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to put weight on that side. π£ It’s frustrating because the bruising looking better doesn’t necessarily mean everything feels better, and I still know that something inside my foot doesn’t feel right. For now, I’m trying to take things as gently as I can and listen to what my body is telling me, even though I wish I had more answers. β€οΈ
And finally, before I get into today’s post, I wanted to leave you with something a little bit sweeter. β€οΈ Sometimes when life feels heavy, I think it’s important to appreciate the people who bring a little bit of sunshine into the world β and Dolly Parton is definitely one of those people. πΈβ¨ There’s something about Dolly that I’ve always found so lovely. She’s incredibly talented, but alongside all of her success, she has this wonderful warmth and generosity that seems to shine through. From her music and acting to her incredible work helping children learn through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she’s spent so much of her life giving something back. πβ€οΈ I also love that Dolly has never seemed to lose that sense of humour and down-to-earth personality despite becoming such a huge star. She has a way of making people smile, and I think the world could always use a little more of that. π Sometimes you don’t need to know someone personally to appreciate the positivity they bring into the world, and Dolly is someone who has certainly brought plenty of it.
And talking of people who have spent decades making their mark on the world, this week’s post gives me the perfect opportunity to celebrate another incredibly talented woman. π From starting her career in Mexico to making her name in Hollywood, taking on unforgettable roles, working behind the camera, and continuing to try new things throughout her career, she has certainly had a journey worth celebrating. And with a very special milestone birthday happening this week, I couldn’t resist shining a little spotlight on her. πβ¨ So, with that said, grab yourself a cuppa β, get comfortable, and join me as we celebrate 60 years of Salma Hayek in this week’s Peyton’s View! β€οΈπ

I don’t know about you, but I always think birthdays are a lovely excuse to celebrate someone, look back at their journey, and appreciate everything they’ve achieved. πβ€οΈ So, this week I thought we’d do something a little bit different here on Peyton’s View because there is a very special birthday happening! Today, 2nd September 2026, Salma Hayek celebrates her 60th birthday! ππβ¨
Yes, you read that correctly… 60! π± And what better way to celebrate such a milestone than by taking a little trip down memory lane and looking at Salma’s incredible journey from her beginnings in Mexico to becoming one of Hollywood’s most recognisable actresses, producers, and filmmakers? π²π½π¬π
I’ve always thought there’s something particularly interesting about people who don’t stay in one lane. Salma’s career has taken her from Mexican television to Hollywood blockbusters, from acting to producing and directing, from playing one of Mexico’s most famous artists to becoming a Marvel superhero!
So grab yourself a cuppa β, get comfortable, and let’s celebrate 60 years of Salma Hayek! πβ¨
Biography
π²π½ From Mexico to Hollywood
Before Salma Hayek became a Hollywood star, she was a young woman from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, with dreams of becoming an actress. Born on 2nd September 1966, Salma grew up in Mexico and eventually began pursuing acting professionally. One of her earliest major successes came when she landed the title role in the Mexican telenovela Teresa in 1989. The series helped make her a star in Mexico and gave her the foundation she needed to take the next step in her career. πΊβ¨ But Salma had bigger dreams. In 1991, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in Hollywood. πΊπΈ That might sound like an exciting adventure now, but making such a huge move and trying to establish yourself in an entirely different entertainment industry couldn’t have been easy. She had to work hard, learn, adapt, and prove she had what it took to succeed.
And eventually, her opportunity came…
π¬ Hello, Hollywood!
Salma’s big Hollywood breakthrough came with the 1995 film ‘Desperado’ (1995), where she starred alongside Antonio Banderas. The film introduced her to a much wider international audience and helped establish her as a Hollywood actress. From there, her career continued to grow. She appeared in films including ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ (1996), ‘Fools Rush In’ (1997), ‘ Dogma’ (1999), and ‘Wild Wild West’ (1999), showing that she wasn’t interested in being restricted to one particular type of role. She could do comedy, drama, action, and more. π¬πΏ And I think that’s one of the things I find most interesting about her career. She didn’t simply find one successful role and stay there. She kept trying different things. She kept learning. She kept evolving. And that would become an important theme throughout her career.
If there’s one role that is impossible to talk about when discussing Salma Hayek’s career, it has to be Frida Kahlo.
In 2002, Salma starred as the famous Mexican artist in the biographical film ‘Frida’. But this wasn’t simply another acting job for her. Salma was deeply passionate about telling Frida Kahlo’s story and was also involved as a producer on the film. And her dedication certainly paid off.
Frida received six Academy Award nominations at the 2003 Oscars and won two β Best Original Score and Best Makeup. Salma herself was nominated for Best Actress for her performance as Frida Kahlo. ππ¨ Although she didn’t win the Oscar, the nomination was an enormous achievement. And it was particularly significant because Salma became the first Mexican actress to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Imagine that moment. Someone who started her career in Mexican television went on to stand on one of Hollywood’s biggest stages, recognised for playing one of Mexico’s most famous artists.
That’s quite a journey. π²π½β€οΈ

π₯ More than just an actress
Something that I think is really important when talking about Salma Hayek is that she isn’t just an actress. She’s also a producer and director. She founded her production company, Ventanarosa, around the turn of the millennium, which allowed her to become more involved in the stories brought to the screen. Her work behind the camera included producing Frida and becoming involved with television projects such as Ugly Betty. She also directed The Maldonado Miracle, for which she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Children’s Special. ππ¬ And I think this is something worth celebrating. Sometimes we see actors on our screens and forget that there’s an enormous amount of work happening behind the scenes. Salma didn’t just want to be the person appearing in front of the camera. She wanted to have a say in the stories being told too.
One of the things I love about looking back at someone’s career is discovering just how many different things they’ve done. And Salma certainly has an impressive variety! From the emotional drama of ‘Frida’ (2002) to comedies such as ‘Grown Ups’ (2010), she has shown that she can move between very different genres. She has also appeared in films including ‘Once Upon a Time in Mexico’ (2003), ‘Bandidas’ (2006), ‘Beatriz at Dinner’ (2017), ‘House of Gucci’ (2021) and many others.
And then there’s one role that perhaps a younger generation will know particularly well…
Did you know Salma Hayek voiced Kitty Softpaws in ‘Puss in Boots?’ (2011) π±π¬
The character became one of her most recognisable animated roles, allowing Salma to show a completely different side of her acting. She later returned as Kitty Softpaws in ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ (2022).
I love little facts like this because it reminds us just how varied someone’s career can be. You can go from portraying a real-life artist such as Frida Kahlo…
…to playing a cartoon cat!
And honestly, that’s quite a career! ππ±

Entering the Marvel universe
Then, in 2021, Salma took on another very different kind of role when she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Eternals’ (2021). She played Ajak, the leader and spiritual guide of the Eternals. And this was another example of Salma continuing to take on new challenges. By this point in her career, she had already been acting for decades β but she wasn’t slowing down. Instead, she was stepping into a completely new world of superhero cinema. π¦ΈββοΈβ¨
And I think there’s something quite lovely about that.
It proves that sometimes the most exciting chapters of your career can happen much later than you might expect.
