π Hello guys, how are you? Welcome back to another blog post! I hope you’ve all had a lovely week and that life has been treating you kindly. π As always, thank you so much for stopping by and spending a little bit of your day here with me. Grab yourself a drink, get comfortable, and let’s have a catch-up before we jump into today’s post! ββ¨
Firstly, I’ve been quite poorly over the past week thanks to my dad, who very kindly (or perhaps not so kindly π) decided to pass his cough and cold onto me. Unfortunately for me, while he started to feel better after a couple of days with the help of medication, my recovery has been a little slower. As some of you may know, I can’t actually take medication due to an intolerance after being hospitalised the last time I was prescribed some, so I mostly have to let my body fight things off on its own. It’s certainly been frustrating, but thankfully my dad is doing much better than he was, even if he’s not quite back to full health yet. π Fingers crossed we’re both back to normal sooner rather than later! π€πΌ Now, talking about having a cough as well as a cold, things become a little more complicated when you throw my other health conditions into the mix. I’ve often joked that I’m a bit of a “perfect storm” when it comes to illness, and unfortunately that’s proving true at the moment. I’m still dealing with costochondritis, and all of the constant coughing has been putting an enormous amount of strain on my ribs, chest, and back. The result is that I’m feeling incredibly weak and sore. In fact, as I’m writing this, I’m temporarily experiencing partial paralysis around my rib and back area again, which isn’t particularly fun. It’s definitely one of those situations where my body is demanding I slow down and rest. As difficult as that can sometimes be, I’m trying my best to listen to it, and hopefully I’ll be on the mend again soon. π€πΌπ
Moving on to something a little more exciting, it’s time for a small house-hunting update! We recently viewed a property over the last few days, and honestly, it was absolutely beautiful. From the moment we arrived, it felt welcoming, and the inside was just as lovely as the outside. While I can’t say too much just yet (mainly because I don’t want to jinx anything! π), I can tell you that we’ve put in an application and we’re now waiting to hear back from the other side. It’s one of those situations where you’re trying not to get your hopes up too much while secretly imagining where all your furniture might go. π€ So for now, we’re keeping everything crossed and hoping for some positive news. Hopefully I’ll be able to share a much bigger update with you all in my next post! π€πΌπ‘β¨ Speaking of exciting news, I couldn’t write this week’s catch-up without mentioning that Toy Story 5 is finally here! π Now, if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll probably know that I absolutely adore anything Disney and Pixar, so this is something I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. Toy Story has been such a huge part of my life growing up. I still remember falling in love with the characters the very first time I watched it, and over the years Woody, Buzz, and the gang have become some of my all-time favourite animated characters. While I probably won’t be rushing off to the cinema to watch it, mainly because I’d much rather enjoy it from the comfort of my own sofa with a blanket, snacks, and a cup of tea when it eventually arrives on Disney+ ππΏ, I’m still incredibly excited to see it. There’s something so special about revisiting characters you’ve grown up with, and I can’t wait to see what adventures await them this time around. ππ€ β¨ Finally, I’m not going to spend too much time talking about this as I know Father’s Day can be a difficult day for many people for different reasons. However, I did want to briefly mention that I had a lovely Father’s Day with my dad this past weekend. We spent the morning doing a little bit of shopping together before heading back home around lunchtime. From there, we settled in for an afternoon of back-to-back films, plenty of snacks, and some much-needed relaxation. πΏπ¬ To be honest, it worked out perfectly. The weather was incredibly hot over the weekend, and with the amount of pain I’ve been dealing with recently, my parents were keen for me to rest as much as possible. More importantly, it was exactly what my dad wanted to do, so I was more than happy to spend the day that way. Sometimes it’s the simple moments that end up being the most enjoyable. π
πΈ Which leads me nicely into this week’s blog post! While I’ve been spending more time resting recently, one thing I’ve always enjoyed is looking back through photographs and appreciating the way a single image can capture a moment, a memory, or even a feeling. And when it comes to creating beautiful photographs, few things are quite as magical as Golden Hour. So today, I thought I’d share some of my favourite tips and tricks for making the most of that gorgeous golden light and capturing stunning photos during one of the most beautiful times of day. π β¨

πΈ Golden Hour Photography: 20 Tips for Capturing Stunning Photos π
Have you ever looked at a photograph and wondered why it looks so warm, soft, and almost magical? Chances are it was taken during what photographers call the Golden Hour.
Golden Hour is one of the most popular times of day for photographers, and it’s easy to see why. The beautiful golden light can transform even the simplest scene into something truly special. Whether you’re using a professional camera or simply taking photos on your smartphone, Golden Hour can help you capture some amazing images.
So today, I thought I’d share 20 tips to help you make the most of this magical time of day. πΈβ¨
π What is Golden Hour?
Golden Hour refers to the period shortly after sunrise and just before sunset when the sun sits low in the sky. During this time, the sunlight becomes softer, warmer, and less harsh than it is at midday.
This creates beautiful lighting conditions that photographers absolutely love. It can add warmth, depth, and atmosphere to your images while reducing harsh shadows and overly bright highlights.
Now that we know what Golden Hour is, let’s jump into the tips!
π 1. Plan Your Location in Advance

Golden Hour doesn’t last very long, so it’s always a good idea to know where you’re going before you set off. This gives you more time to focus on taking photos rather than searching for the perfect spot.
β° 2. Arrive Early

Try arriving at least 20β30 minutes before Golden Hour begins. This allows you to explore the area, set up your equipment, and find the best angles before the light starts changing.
π 3. Make the Most of the Warm Light

The golden tones during this time can add a beautiful glow to your photos. Look for scenes that really benefit from those warm colours.
π 4. Pay Attention to Where the Light Falls

Light can completely change the look and feel of an image. Watch how it falls on your subject and experiment with different positions.
πΈ 5. Shoot More Than You Think You Need
The light changes quickly during Golden Hour. A photo taken five minutes later can look completely different, so don’t be afraid to take plenty of shots.
π€ 6. Experiment with Portrait Photography

Golden Hour is fantastic for portraits because the soft light is flattering and creates fewer harsh shadows on faces.
β¨ 7. Try Backlighting Your Subject

Position your subject between yourself and the sun to create a beautiful glow around them. This can add a magical touch to your photographs.
π 8. Capture Silhouettes

Silhouettes can look absolutely stunning during Golden Hour. Place your subject in front of the bright sky and expose for the background to create a dramatic effect.
π± 9. Remember That Smartphones Work Too

You don’t need expensive equipment to enjoy Golden Hour photography. Many smartphones can capture beautiful images when the lighting is right.
π¨ 10. Look for Interesting Colours

Golden Hour enhances colours beautifully. Fields, flowers, autumn leaves, and colourful buildings can all look amazing during this time.
πΆ 11. Include People in Your Shots

Adding people can help tell a story and make your images feel more engaging and relatable.
π³ 12. Use Natural Frames

Trees, arches, pathways, and other natural features can help frame your subject and draw the viewer’s eye into the image.
π 13. Try Different Compositions
Don’t be afraid to move around and experiment. Sometimes the best photograph comes from a completely different angle than you first expected.
βοΈ 14. Don’t Worry If There Are Clouds
Many people think clear skies are essential, but clouds can actually add texture, colour, and drama to your photos.
πΎ 15. Look for Reflections

Water, puddles, windows, and even shiny surfaces can reflect the warm colours of Golden Hour, creating interesting compositions.
π 16. Focus on Small Details

Not every Golden Hour photograph needs to be a huge landscape. Sometimes flowers, leaves, or other small details can make fantastic subjects.
π· 17. Keep Your Lens Clean

A simple tip, but an important one! Smudges and dust can become more noticeable when shooting into bright light.
π 18. Stay a Little Longer

Many people pack up as soon as the sun disappears. However, the sky can often become even more colourful in the minutes after sunset.
π§ 19. Be Patient

Photography often rewards patience. Sometimes waiting a few extra minutes can result in the perfect light or composition.
β€οΈ 20. Enjoy the Experience

While it’s great to capture beautiful images, don’t forget to take a moment to enjoy the scenery around you. Golden Hour can be incredibly peaceful and relaxing.
β¨ Final Thoughts
Golden Hour is one of my favourite times to take photographs because of the beautiful colours, soft lighting, and wonderful atmosphere it creates. Whether you’re photographing landscapes, wildlife, buildings, or portraits, there’s something truly special about watching the world glow in warm golden light.
The best part is that you don’t need expensive equipment or years of experience to get started. All you need is a camera, a bit of patience, and a willingness to experiment.
