Happy Birthday Jim Carrey!

Good Morning everyone, hope all is well! I mentioned in last weeks post that on Monday whilst we were out at our local supermarket, the shelves in the fridge and all the bottles fell on top of me and my mum, injuring us, more so me as I was directly underneath the impact. Well, we had to get X-rays done the next day as they were still no better, thankfully my mum showed that nothing was broken, they said that the bone was probably really bruised and that was why it was causing her so much pain, as for me – they found that I had an Acromio-Clavicular Joint (ACJ for short) disruption, but dismissed it and sent me home, only for me to have to get an emergency out of hours appointment 3 days later (Friday night) as it had gradually got worse in that time. The doctor there wanted me to have another X-ray done and phoned our nearest hospital to try and request it to be done quicker without having to go through A&E, only for them to get back to us 2 days later (Sunday night) to inform us we have an appointment for tomorrow (Thursday) at the Fracture Clinic, so I shall post an update in next weeks blog! In other news, something good did happen, we’ve been reconnecting again with my cousin who has always been like a sister to me, which has been really nice!

Anyway, on with this week’s post, which is a celebration of the iconic comedian that is Jim Carrey. Whether you know him as the bizarre pet detective from Ace Ventura, or as the ordinary Joe with unexplainable powers in Bruce Almighty or as the outspoken actor on Twitter, Jim Carrey has consistently shown his versatility, capturing poignancy in both touching dramas and the most ridiculous of comedies. No one can deny it is the latter that has made him such a famous figure. His physical comedy is one-of-a-kind, made up of a near-unrivaled combination of slapstick. Read on to find out more about Jim and how he became to be the comedy genius he is today as he celebrates his 62nd birthday…

  • According to Biography and reinforced on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Carrey wrote himself a check for $10 million in 1983 with the hopes of cashing it 10 years later. The idea was to bet on himself while keeping his eye on the ultimate prize of Hollywood success. Of course, by 1994, Carrey had risen to become one of the most famous movie stars on the planet. By the time he made The Cable Guy in 1996, he would command a whopping $20 million movie, as one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars.
  • Has played the two most well known fictional characters who hated Christmas, The Grinch and Ebenezer.
  • Dealt with depression, Carrey took Prozac, eventually deciding to get off medications. He has stated that he no longer takes medications or stimulants of any kind, not even coffee.
  • Jack Nicholson has called him the “Jack Nicholson of the next generation”.
  • In 2014, Carrey was one of several comedians to grace a special limited-edition set of postage stamps issued by the Canada Post. The Canadian post office issued a special set of stamps celebrating the “Great Canadian Comedians” and Jim Carrey was one of the five, The others were, Mike Myers, Catherine O’Hara, Olivier Guimond and Martin Short.

  • He had never heard of Doctor Who (1963) until being offered the role of the Eighth Doctor in Doctor Who: The Movie (1996), which was the key factor into turning down the role, as he felt he would cause outrage amongst Doctor Who fans if the role wasn’t played by a Doctor Who fan.
  • He donated a signed head-shot to Rocky Stone to be auctioned off to raise money to buy more toys for less fortunate kids as part of the Toy Mountain Campaign 2004.
  •  In 2013, Carrey published his first book, a children’s story titled How Roland Rolls, about a scared wave named Roland. He described it as “kind of a metaphysical children’s story, which deals with a lot of heavy stuff in a really childish way.” It was awarded a Gelett Burgess Children’s Book Award.
  • Started as a stand up comedian in Canadian clubs when 15.
  • Wrote letters to Tupac Shakur when Tupac was in prison to help him laugh and smile. Tupac said that Carrey was his favorite actor.
  • He appeared at the 20th anniversary special for The Comedy Store wearing nothing but a sock on his penis.
  • Carrey delivered the commencement address at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, in May 2014 and received an honorary doctorate for his achievements as a comedian, artist, author, and philanthropist.
  • Jim has appeared in over 65 movies. His best-known and most successful movies are Bruce Almighty, The Mask, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Liar Liar, The Truman Show, and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.

Jim Carrey is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood – and rightly so, thanks to all of the comedic genius he has gifted us over the years. Carrey has managed to make us laugh, cry and sob, which is certainly the sign of a well rounded actor. In April 2022, Carrey announced that he was considering retirement from the film industry, explaining, “I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.” When asked if he would ever come back, his response was, “It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break”. As we celebrate Jim Carrey’s birthday, let’s take a moment to appreciate all of the laughter and joy he has brought into our lives, and join me in wishing him a Happy birthday!

Thank you for visiting my blog and reading today’s post, I hope you all have a lovely week and I shall see you next Wednesday!

  1. Hi, I just was reading about your blog today and I had to subscribe. Where can I view some of the “pictures around the world”? I was just out and about in the recent snowstorm we had yesterday to snap some winter landscape pictures.

      1. At the moment, the only place you can view my pictures is through various posts on my blog. I’m in the process of starting a business venture with my best friend, which hopefully in time will lead to a gallery of our own.
