Hey everybody, hope you’re all well and have enjoyed the past week. Last Thursday was my mum’s birthday, so to celebrate we went out for the day into Leeds, as we’re going to the National Space Centre in Leicester this upcoming Sunday as a joint celebration for all three of us, as weirdly enough our birthdays fall within a month of each other; starting with my mum in the middle of September, followed by my birthday eleven days later, close to the end of September and ending with my dad in the middle of October, so, as a way to celebrate all of our birthdays with them being so close, we made a deal awhile ago to find something that we all wanted to do, and go halfway between September and October, usually closer to my birthday, but it’s a joint celebration that is non-negotiable at my request. My mum and I had a really good time in Leeds, up until we were driving home when two reckless drivers almost made us crash by cutting-in, right in front of us without any indication, but nevertheless it was still an enjoyable day.
Talking about birthdays, and mentioning me and my family going to the Space Centre, made me think of other places and activities I would like to do/see for future birthdays, and I thought ‘this would make a great post for my blog to inspire others and give them ideas to use for their own birthday,’ so read on and see if any of the activities on the list could be a possibility for you.

Though turning a year older can be a little scary to some people, but birthdays are actually a reason to celebrate being a year wiser—and a reason to do just about anything we want for a whole 24-hours! So, instead of sulking under the covers at home for the entire day, get up and get out there to check something cool off your birthday bucket list. Whether you’re the type of person who’d rather your birthday go unnoticed, or the type to be counting down the days until the big event, there’s no denying that they’re a special time of year. They serve as the perfect excuse to get friends and family together in one place, allowing us to celebrate and show appreciation to those that we care about. With a new year on the horizon, it’s an ideal opportunity to stop and take stock of life. It may even be a time to set some positive goals for you to achieve in the upcoming year. Hunting for epic things to do on your birthday can seem like an impossible task. Whether you’re planning to be with friends, family, or even alone, it can be difficult to find inspiration. Don’t know what to do? From brunch to bar hopping to bowling, there are plenty of cool places to go and fun things to do on your special day, even if you are planning it last minute! Whether you are alone at home or with friends, here is a list of the best birthday activities to ensure you have the time of your life.
Fun things to do
Play Mini Golf

Simply said, “the golf game is complicated”. On the surface it appears to be an easy and relaxing, drawing you in with its spacious clubhouse, green fairways and refreshing beer carts, but you will probably end up frustrated. So INSTEAD try your hand at a fun game of putt-putt golf (aka: mini golf). From putting balls into clowns mouths to miniature windmills, a round of mini golf is a fun low-stress environment.
Go to an Amusement Park

Just because you’re a year older doesn’t mean you have to start acting it. Relive the happy and carefree days of your childhood and head to your nearest theme park. Offering an awesome day of birthday fun, thrill yourself on a hair-raising rollercoaster and immerse yourself in a park’s numerous exciting attractions and events. If you’re an animal lover, many amusement parks also have zoos for you to go make some new furry friends and snap some great pictures.
See a Live Show

Live theater is one of the most breath-taking activities you can participate in, so getting tickets to see a show on your birthday will be a night you won’t forget. Whatever month your birthday falls, there’s always hundreds of events and live shows to get involved in. Whether you see your favourite artist in concert, a theatre performance you’ve always wanted to watch, or a comedy show to keep you in fits of laughter, it’s a classic way to spend a birthday for a reason. You could splurge on tickets to see a West End or Broadway show, depending on where you live and if you’re in the mood for a more expensive treat. You have the option to see something new or to celebrate with one of your favorites.
Relax with a Spa Day

Sometimes for many, birthdays and life can be a stressful time but there’s nothing better than taking an entire day to relax. Take some time for self-care and have a spa day with your besties either at a local spa or make it an overnight trip over the weekend to a great spa in a different region. Decide you need some pampering and go book that spa day, make an appointment at your favorite salon to get a new haircut, have your nails done, massage or get a refreshing facial. If you’re more of the home type, you could invite a trusted aesthetician into your home and have a spa day in the comfort of your living room.
Take a Hike

If you are interested in the outdoors, being active, or exploring something new, or the combination of all three, perhaps it’s time to take your birthday on a hike? Hiking is not only an excellent way to challenge yourself physically, it’s beneficial even mentally. Head for the hills and channel your inner explorer. Pack a bag full of tasty snacks, not forgetting that all important slice of birthday cake, and celebrate your special day being at one with nature. You could even go one up and start your new age with a bucket-list adventure climbing a mountain. Spending time in nature can be restorative, and it enables you to disconnect from the stress and chaos of the world. From hiking the Inca Trail in Peru to trekking Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the world is littered with bucket list worthy routes and trails that’ll take you to some of the most gorgeous spots of nature out there.
Visit a Museum

How about spending the day at a museum and stepping into a whole new world? Go it alone or bring your curious minded friend along. With a variety of themes from science to history to art galleries, there’s guaranteed to be a museum to pique your interest and bring an element of class and education to your birthday. Even if you are art connoisseurs or history buffs, touring a museum can be a lot of fun, especially as a birthday idea for a rainy day. Art and historical museums can be educational and surprisingly interesting, but for something even more fun, try to find the quirkiest museum in your area!
Spend the Day in a Botanical Garden

From trips to the Eden Project in Cornwall to a visit to Kew Gardens in London, spending time in nature can be incredibly tranquil and will start your new year on a good note. With over 100 registered National Trust parks and gardens in the UK, there’s a huge collection of historic gardens for you to explore.
Go to the Beach

Sometimes, the best parties are about keeping things simple. Grab your beach bag, skateboard, volleyball, and sunscreen and head down to the boardwalk or your favorite strip of sand. England has a pretty impressive coastline and there’s no better birthday companion than the waves. If you’re something of a foodie, a trip to the beach is incomplete without some of the finest British fare in the form of fish and chips and ice cream. If you’re the active type, there’s a whole host of watersports for you to discover – from surfing to coasteering to sailing, or you can bring along games, toys, and floaties if you’re feeling energetic or just lounge in a comfortable chair and enjoy some relaxation. Don’t forget to pack a few beverages and some snacks to keep your energy levels up. You can make a beach day as active or relaxing as you want.
Have a Movie Night

Make it a night to remember by getting together with some friends and heading to your favourite restaurant for a little pre-film meal, before immersing yourself in the cinema’s surround sound and big screen. If you’re feeling creative, you can even host your own movie night at home, by Inviting all your friends and family and hiring a projector and binge watching a fun TV series. Make sure to get some yummy snacks (from pizza and hot dogs to popcorn and sweets), some comfortable jammies and just spend time chilling on the couch. Just put on Netflix or Amazon Prime and stream one of your favorites or may try out a new one.
Plan an Escape Room

If you want to test your one-year-older brain and how effectively you can work together with friends when met with an obstacle, go to an escape room. An escape room is an adventure game designed for small groups. The idea is to solve puzzles and riddles in order to find your way out of a locked room in a limited amount of time. It may sound easy, but it’s not! You and your team have to work together to decipher clues, overcome challenges and find your way out of a locked room in less than 60 minutes, if you need help, a ‘Games Master’ is there to give you clues. It’s a totally interactive and immersive experience, requiring logic, problem solving, teamwork and communication. A budget-friendly alternative to expensive birthday outings, escape rooms not only see you work with your loved ones but it’ll give you another thing to celebrate when you are successful. You’ll be buzzing at the end of the hour and may well become an escape room addict!
Face Your Fears and Go Skydiving

Start your birthday year with a bang by skydiving. The rush of adrenaline will make you feel alive and the beauty of the world from above is unparalleled. Plus, overcoming your fears can help you face your new age with confidence and an adventurous spirit. You can start your birthday 10,000 feet up in the air and take in some spectacular views as you complete the dive. Tell your pals your birthday itinerary and you may even get a sidekick to join you on your adventure. It may be wise to start with a tandem dive, where you’re attached to a professional, but if you want more of an adventure go solo! If you can’t quite face the reality of throwing yourself out of a plane, indoor skydiving is a perfect alternative with a more controlled environment.
Have a Board Game Night

Some people may think board games are boring, but they can actually be a lot of fun especially if you have the perfect game and people to play with. Invite your friends and family and have everyone come in their favourite pyjamas. Board games have definitely evolved over the years, but there are both classics and modern games that would make for a fantastic game night with families and friends. Scoop up all of your favorite board games and host a night filled with laughter. Choose from brain-boosting games like trivia to laugh-out-loud options like Cards Against Humanity. You can even set up some of your favorite video games from Crash Bandicoot to Mario Bros. Feel like going out, but still want to play games? Head to an arcade (or better yet, an arcade bar) where you can indulge in classics like pinball and get competitive with arcade basketball. For an extra dose of nostalgia, make sure there’s plenty of treat bags for the winner(s).
Take a Trip

A trip to a foreign country can be inspiring and a great reward for working hard or reaching a certain age. Get the gang together and take a friends’ vacation to an exotic locale or a local hot spot. Choose a destination from your bucket list or head to one of your favorite spots for a birthday celebration. This might take some planning to work out the perfect route, or just pack up your bags, take time off work and hit the road with choosing your destinations on the fly. Alternatively, you can book a local wellness retreat or an adventure trip like heli-skiing or river rafting. Keep in mind that vacations require a lot of planning, so you may want to work with a travel agent if you’re looking for an adventure without a lot of hassle. Either way, road trip will be epic. It doesn’t even have to be a long trip, it could just be for a day or two, but make sure you have plenty of entertainment along the way.
Go on a Shopping Spree

This is perfect for a last minute celebration and can be done alone or with friends and family. Perhaps you’ve had your eye on something for a while and haven’t got around to buying it yet, or maybe you’re looking for something new to wear to a birthday party later on. Either way, an impromptu shopping spree gets you out of the house on your birthday and lets you receive a present from yourself.
Get Your Hair & Makeup Professionally Done

Before you head out the door for a special birthday night out, why not make the night extra special and get your hair and makeup professional done in preparation? You can book a slot at a salon or hire someone to come right to your home. Either way, afterwards you’ll be looking (and feeling) pretty dang good.
Do a Birthday Photoshoot

If you want memories that will last forever in a physical form, then organizing a birthday photoshoot is a great idea. You can hire a professional photographer and have the pictures done alone or with friends. Birthday photographs typically include balloons and cake, but you can plan the shoot however you prefer. You can then organize the professional photographs into an album or scrapbook to remember the day for the rest of your life.
Go Camping (or Glamping)

As far as things to do on your birthday go, a camping trip is something truly rejuvenating. Spending some time in nature away from technology and stress of daily life, roasting hot dogs and eating s’mores, and maybe finding a lake to chill by, is some of the best time you’ll spend. Because camping requires a little more preparation than many other birthday ideas on this list, you might opt to go glamping instead where everything will be set up when you arrive.
Food and Drink Things To Do
Brunch

Because nothing says “Happy Birthday” like mouth-watering breakfast foods and of course plenty of mimosas. Rapidly becoming the cornerstone of British dining, nowadays going to brunch is very fashionable. So why not join the brunch trend by gathering your pals together to celebrate your bday with a plethora of food in a relaxed environment. There are a lot of very beautiful places where you can enjoy the food Whether you go for bottomless cocktails, free-flowing fizz or a more sophisticated high-class brunch, you’ll have free reign to choose as the member of birthday royalty.
Cookery Class

Face your new age with style by learning a new skill to become a kitchen master. Whether it’s cooking alongside a celebrity chef, online in the familiarity of your own kitchen, or satisfying that sweet tooth and making your own cake, there’s plenty of cookery courses for you to revel in. There’s so many benefits to attending a cooking class. But, with a group of you attempting it all together you’ll get to have a blast laughing as you try – and maybe fail – in creating something delicious; and then you’ll get to eat your successful creations!
Host a Picnic

Keep things simple and grab a blanket, some plates and fill a hamper to the brim with all your favourite sweet and savoury treats. Make a beeline for your favourite spot in your city, countryside – wherever else your imagination takes you, or even host it in your own garden for a more low-key affair. Remember to bring along your favorite snacks and some simple games. And don’t forget to include a music playlist for the day, which you can play from your phone.
Go Wine Tasting

If you enjoy tasting good wine, this is another highly recommended gift for anyone! Get dressed to the nines and celebrate your birthday with a day of wine tasting. In Napa Valley, you can hop on a wine train to check out a few different wineries. In other wine-growing regions — including the Finger Lakes region of New York and the Columbia Valley in Washington State — you can ride bikes to different wineries or choose just one and hang out on their patio for the afternoon sipping bubbly and sweet grapes. You can look for a winery that includes a visit to the winery itself, an explanation of basic notions from expert sommeliers and the corresponding tasting to put into practice what you have learned. Don’t live near a winery? Buy a few different bottles of wine and host a tasting in your backyard instead. If wine isn’t your thing, do a tasting of tequila, whiskey, or beer.
Food Tours

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t LOVE food? Embark on a solo adventure or bring your expedition partners and head out on a food tour in your local city. Plan stops at all your favourite places – You could choose restaurants that all specialize in different types of food to have the most diverse dinner possible and perhaps try a different wine in each as well. Or visit one of the famous markets like Borough Market and sample the multitude of delectable food on offer. Along the way, you may even discover some hidden gems you didn’t know existed. Plus having a progressive dinner at all your favorite restaurants gives you the opportunity to celebrate your birthday all over the city and experience a variety of different options for every course.
Afternoon Tea

We’re strong believers in the phrase ‘any excuse for a tea party’. And really celebrating a birthday is the perfect occasion. It doesn’t have to be a milestone one either! Vintage, vegan, cream or classic – whatever your preferred afternoon tea, it’s a great way to mark the day. You could even host one at home and get your friends and family together for some tea, cake and homemade goods.
Host a Fun Birthday BBQ

If your birthday happens to fall on a summer month, nothing beats a traditional barbecue and casual get-together with friends to celebrate in style. Make your garden BBQ one to remember with themed décor, unforgettable food, and you could even make your own fruit punch. Just don’t forget the cake!
Make Your Own Ice Cream night

Remember when you were a kid and there was nothing more exciting than an ice cream bar with the full works? Brighten up your next birthday with an ice cream featuring colorful sprinkles, every flavour of ice cream under the sun, sweet fudge, and plenty of fun toppings to put you into a sugar coma. Your birthday is the perfect time to spoil yourself! You can either choose your favorite ice cream flavors or make it a birthday theme and serve banana splits or have an ice cream sundae bar. Whatever you choose, an ice cream social is a great way to enjoy the sweeter things in life on your birthday.
Hopefully this birthday list of suggestions have given you some inspiration for fun things to do on your birthday. And the great thing about birthdays is you can make them whatever you want – so whether you’re wanting a big bash or prefer something a little more low-key, there’s a celebratory experience with your name on it. Always remember that turning a year older is something to be celebrated because it gives you the chance to commemorate how much you have achieved in the past year and make many more plans for the following year.
